Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected a US nuclear deal allowing low-level uranium enrichment, calling the US “arrogant” and stating that abandoning enrichment is “100%” against Iran’s interests and its “We Can” principle of self-reliance.

The proposal, reported by Axios, was submitted Saturday by envoy Steve Witkoff for civilian uranium enrichment. Khamenei, with final state authority, did not call for halting talks.

A US official told the WSJ that Washington anticipated the rejection and will consider next steps, with possible further negotiations this weekend.
