Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was the target of a theft while dining at a restaurant in downtown Washington, DC, on Sunday night, two individuals familiar with the matter, including a law enforcement source, told CNN Monday.

The Secret Service, responsible for Noem’s protection, examined surveillance footage from the restaurant; the video revealed an unidentified white male, wearing a medical mask, stealing her bag and exiting the premises.

According to the law enforcement source, the stolen items included Noem’s driver’s license, prescription medication, keys to her apartment, passport, Department of Homeland Security access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and approximately $3,000 in cash.

The Secret Service has opened an investigation; their focus is to monitor and trace any usage of Noem’s financial assets, the source added.
