Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was hospitalized Tuesday following an allergic reaction, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed.

Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS Assistant Secretary, issued a statement saying Noem was “alert” and recovering.

“Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,” DHS said in the statement.

CNN later reported that Noem was taken by ambulance to a hospital in the Washington, D.C., area. She was said to be “conscious” at the time and had “spoken to her security detail” and her physician.
