Police in Ogden, Utah, arrested a 21-year-old man and discovered multiple homemade bombs during the investigation of antisemitic online threats, authorities announced Wednesday.
The Ogden Police Department took Skyler Rose, 21 into custody after detectives linked him to threatening antisemitic posts made online. While Rose did not allegedly threaten a specific synagogue, investigators said he at one point posted that he wanted to “blow up a synagogue.” A search of his room led to the discovery of several homemade explosive devices. Rose was booked into the Weber County Jail on multiple felony charges, including seven counts of first-degree felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
Following the arrest, Mayor Ben Nadolski emphasized unity and reassurance, saying the city stands with the Jewish community “fully and without hesitation.” He said he personally contacted local Jewish leadership in the aftermath of the incident.
“I have been in close contact with the President of our local synagogue to personally express our city’s enduring love, compassion and support for their congregation and for the Jewish faith community as a whole,” Nadolski said. “Acts of hate and intimidation have no place in Ogden and we will not allow fear to take root here.”
Nadolski stressed that threats of violence and intimidation would not be tolerated, adding that Ogden Police Chief Jake Sube and the Ogden Police Department have his full support as they work to hold anyone who threatens the public accountable.
“The safety and well-being of our residents will always be our highest priority,” the mayor said. “We will continue to work closely with local, state, and federal partners to ensure Ogden remains a safe place for everyone who lives, works, and worships here.”
