U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee outlined two critical conditions for ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza during an interview with Channel Makan 33 on Thursday evening.
He stated that the first condition is the removal of Hamas from Gaza, adding that “its presence is equivalent to keeping the Nazis in Germany after World War II.” The second condition, he emphasized, is the release of all hostages held by the terrorists.
Huckabee explained that Hamas remains the main barrier to any negotiated agreement, noting, “The movement constantly changes its conditions and puts up new obstacles.” He expressed hope that a resolution is near, saying, “I want to see all the hostages back in their homes. Until that happens, I will not remove the hostages’ pin from my suit.”
On Israel’s plans to take control of Gaza City, Huckabee said, “That is an Israeli decision.”
When asked about U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a migration plan from Gaza, he clarified: “We want to enable those in Gaza who wish to leave the sector to move toward a free life away from Hamas and its oppression.”
Huckabee also sharply criticized European efforts to recognize a Palestinian state, calling them “destructive and futile.” He stressed that the Palestinian Authority should halt attempts at unilateral recognition, adding, “The United States opposes these steps, but the Europeans continue to move forward without realizing the harm they are causing to the peace process.”
Concluding his remarks, Huckabee suggested the possibility of a security agreement with Syria, stating, “Syria could be the next partner in the Abraham Accords, but we must ensure the protection of the Druze and Alawites in any future agreement.”
