U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee made an appearance at Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial in Tel Aviv on Wednesday; the first such visit in the history of US-Israel relations.
The visit by the top American diplomat signals strong support from the Trump administration for the Israeli prime minister and hints at a growing distrust in Israel’s judicial processes.

Huckabee arrived at the district court where Netanyahu is facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases. His attendance comes just weeks after the conclusion of the war between Israel and Iran, a period during which President Trump has publicly urged for the halting of Netanyahu’s trial. Trump has reportedly dangled an implicit threat of suspending military assistance if the “witch hunt” against the prime minister persists.
Netanyahu’s trial has been ongoing for four years. Netanyahu critics, including the former head of Israel’s Shin Bet, accuse Netanyahu of repeated attempts to use executive powers to stall the proceedings.
Huckabee initially announced his intention to attend the trial during a conference in Tel Aviv, claiming he merely wanted to observe the proceedings. However, once at the court, his statements made it clear his presence was designed to send a message.
He stated that he was not there to express an opinion on the legal proceeding itself, but rather to draw a parallel between Netanyahu’s situation and President Trump’s own experiences in the U.S. He also suggested that the ongoing trial distracts Netanyahu from his crucial role as prime minister, particularly in the wake of recent regional tensions.
“The judges are not the ones who brought this indictment. The judges are great. Me being here has nothing to do with the judges, but with the fact that this whole trial is wrong,” Huckabee told reporters outside the courtroom. He further solidified his stance on X (formerly Twitter) after departing, writing, “I stopped by the trial of @IsraeliPM in Tel Aviv today. My conclusion @realDonaldTrump is right…again.”
Huckabee was present for only a short time before the hearing transitioned into a closed-door session due to the involvement of classified issues.
