The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed Monday that a strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, successfully targeted and killed top Hamas official Ismail Barhoum Sunday night.
Shortly after the strike, Defense Minister Yisrael announced that Barhoum had been eliminated, a claim that was later echoed in an official statement by Hamas.
According to the military and Shin Bet, Barhoum, a senior member of Hamas’s political bureau, played a crucial role in the terror group’s financial operations. He was the successor to Issam Da’alis, the de facto prime minister of Gaza, who was killed last week.
A joint statement from the IDF and Shin Bet described Barhoum as a key figure in Hamas’s political bureau, actively involved in military decision-making processes that directly impacted the group’s operations.
The statement further detailed Barhoum’s role in overseeing Hamas’s financial activities in Gaza, stating that he was responsible for managing funds that were used to support Hamas’s military wing. These funds were allegedly directed toward financing and planning terror attacks against Israel, purchasing weapons, and maintaining Hamas’ operational infrastructure in Gaza.
