The IDF announced Monday that it demolished a tunnel in southern Gaza used by Hamas terrorists during a deadly May 3 attack that left two Israeli soldiers dead.

The attack occurred when Hamas operatives detonated an explosive device in a tunnel shaft in Rafah, killing Captain Noam Ravid Hy”d and Staff Sergeant Yaly Seror Hy”d, both members of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit.

According to the IDF, the terrorists escaped through a 200-meter-long tunnel after the blast. Israeli forces recently located and mapped the tunnel before carrying out its destruction.

During the operation to demolish the passageway, IDF troops encountered and eliminated an additional Hamas cell that had been hiding inside the tunnel.
