The IDF announced that it conducted an airstrike in Gaza City which killed Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera journalist whom the military describes as “a terrorist operating under the guise of a journalist.”

Another journalist who worked with Hamas, Mohammed Qreiqeh, was eliminated, bur Israel has not yet confirmed this.

According to the IDF, “The terrorist Anas al-Sharif served as a cell leader in the Hamas terror organization and advanced plans for rocket fire against Israeli civilians and IDF forces.”

Meanwhile, the BBC reported that the ‘entire Al Jazeera team in Gaza City has been eliminated the an Israeli airstrike.”

The army stated that in October it released documents seized in Gaza which it says “unequivocally” verify Sharif’s “military affiliation with Hamas.”

At that time, the IDF reported that Sharif commanded a rocket-launching unit and was part of an elite Nukhba Force company within Hamas’s East Jabalia Battalion.

“These documents serve as proof of the terrorist’s integration into the Qatari Al Jazeera media network,” the military added.

Al Jazeera has strongly rejected Israel’s claims, accusing it of deliberately targeting the network’s staff in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF said the strike was conducted with measures to reduce civilian casualties, including “the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence information.”

Al Jazeera confirmed that Sharif was killed alongside Qreiqeh and videographers Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal. The network said the strike hit a tent near Shifa Hospital.

Just minutes before his death, Sharif had been filming Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City and posting the footage on social media.

“Relentless bombing… For two hours, the Israeli aggression on Gaza City has intensified,” he wrote on X.
