The IDF confirmed on Thursday that the Air Force eliminated Abdullah Abu Shamala, the longtime head of Hamas’s naval formation in Gaza. According to the military, Abu Shamala oversaw the unit for years, directed its operations, and played a central role in multiple maritime attacks against Israel.

The IDF said Abu Shamala was directly involved in the attempted infiltration of the Zikim outpost during Operation Protective Edge and was responsible for planning the terrorists’ naval assault carried out on October 7.

In the same series of strikes, the IDF also eliminated terrorist Fadi Abu Mustafa. Military officials said Abu Mustafa held several Israeli hostages, including Nimrod Cohen and David Kunio.

The IDF noted that the targeted strikes were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas’s operational capabilities and remove senior figures involved in attacks against Israel.
