The IDF said Tuesday that it thwarted an attempt to smuggle dozens of firearms into Israel from Jordan using a drone.
According to the military, troops from the Yoav Regional Brigade detected a drone crossing the border and successfully brought it down before it could complete its mission.
After intercepting the aircraft, soldiers discovered that it was transporting 40 handguns. The IDF said both the drone and the seized weapons were transferred to Israeli police custody.
The military noted that over the past year there have been repeated efforts to smuggle weapons and drugs into Israel using drones, particularly along the Egyptian border. While smuggling attempts are also common along the Jordanian border, the IDF said the use of drones in that area has been less frequent.
