The IDF has announced a new, aggressive enforcement plan to locate yeshiva students who have not responded to military draft orders, with 54,000 notices now being issued.

According to Channel 12, Israel’s Charedi parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism, are boycotting votes in the Knesset chamber alongside their coalition partners until they are presented with a revised draft of the controversial conscription law.

Under the announced plan, anyone who fails to report within two months may be declared a draft evader. The IDF estimates that the number of evaders could rise to 34,000 over the next year, most of them Charedim.

Checkpoints will be set up at entrances to Charedi cities, major highways, and additional areas beyond the existing enforcement at Ben-Gurion Airport. Military police units and Border Police will be reinforced in anticipation of protests.

Due to limited detention space, just 250 to 300 places the army acknowledged it cannot carry out widespread arrests.

Charedi leaders warned of resistance. “Any attempt to break the Torah world will encounter a wall in the form of resistance, dedication, and prayer,” one source told B’chadrei Charedim. A senior political figure added that the timing appears intended to pressure Charedi representatives to compromise.
