The IDF will remain, in alimited capacity, in Lebanon after the withdrawal deadline under the terms of the ceasefire deal between Israel and the Hezbollah terror group, the Times of Israel reported Monday.
Israel says the Lebanese government and the terrorists have not held up their end of the deal, which includes the Arab army stepping in to control Hezbollah’s positions and keep them north of the Litani river.
IDF troops will remain in five strategic positions in southern Lebanon after Tuesday’s deadline for their withdrawal.
A ceasefire deal was brokered in November, after Israel decimated the terrorists’ leadership and infrastructure. Under its terms, Israel was given 60 days to withdraw, which ended on January 26. Israel asked the US for an extension until Feb. 18, but Washington authorized Israel last week to remain in the five positions afterwards. It isn’t known how long Israel plans to stay there
