A top military aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader warned on Sunday that conflict with Israel or the United States is still a real possibility, dismissing the present ceasefire as nothing more than a temporary lull in an ongoing struggle.

“We are not in a ceasefire, we are in a stage of war. No protocol, regulation, or agreement has been written between us and the US or Israel,” said senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Yahya Rahim Safavi, according to Iran International.

“I think another war may happen, and after that, there may be no more wars,” he continued.

Safavi’s warning follows months of escalating rhetoric after clashes in June. Israel’s Chief of Staff has emphasized the IDF’s readiness to resume operations if the terror sponsoring Islamic Republic resumes hostilities or threatens Israel.

His remarks were made two months after Israel launched a surprise campaign on June 13, hitting military and nuclear facilities across Iran.

On June 22, the US carried out its own strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Two days later, Washington announced a ceasefire, halting nearly two weeks of aerial warfare.

In the days following, President Donald Trump indicated that dialogue with Tehran was on the table.

“We have scheduled Iran talks, and they want to talk,” Trump said. “They’ve requested a meeting and I’m going to go to a meeting, and if we can put something down on paper, that would be fine.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry, however, rejected Trump’s account, insisting that no such request for talks had been made.

The US has insisted that any agreement must include a complete halt to Iran’s uranium enrichment program, a condition Iran has firmly refused to accept.
