A Wednesday report from the Saudi Al-Hadath news outlet has indicated that Israel is considering a partial withdrawal from the Morag Axis in the Gaza Strip, signaling a potential softening of its stance under growing US pressure. This development, if confirmed, could significantly impact ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire and a hostage release deal.
The Morag Axis, a strategic security corridor established by Israel, effectively separates the southern Gaza cities of Rafah and Khan Younis. Announced by Prime Minister Binyamin in early April 2025, its creation was described as a means to divide the Gaza Strip and intensify pressure on Hamas to release remaining Israeli hostages and surrender control of the territory. The corridor, named after a former Israeli settlement, stretches from east to west across agricultural land, aiming to restrict movement and control the flow of resources.
However, the establishment and continued presence within the Morag Axis have become a significant point of contention in recent negotiations.
