Israel Reportedly Decides to Occupy Gaza as Negotiations Stall

Israel is reportedly preparing to occupy the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official told journalist Amit Segal on Monday.

The report follows months of stalled talks between Hamas terrorists and Israel that had failed to achieve the release of all hostages and a nearly two year military campaign that has not succeeded in dismantling Hamas.

According to Segal’s report, a senior figure in Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office stated, “We’re going to occupy the strip. The decision has been made. Hamas won’t release more hostages without total surrender, and we won’t surrender.”

This official gure framed the move as an urgent necessity, adding, “If we don’t act now, the hostages will starve to death and Gaza will remain under Hamas’ control.”

The report suggests that for months, Israel had been at a “crossroads,” with the official acknowledging that a broad mandate for negotiations had failed to produce a deal. As a result, the government is now moving to a more aggressive military posture, which Segal says will involve entering areas Israel had previously avoided. Specifically, the report mentions areas in central Gaza and parts of Gaza City that had not seen significant activity in the past 18 months.

Crucially, the report indicates that this new approach would involve military operations “even in areas where hostages are held.” Segal notes the official’s comments leave no ambiguity, stating that the decision will be presented to the cabinet for approval this week.

While the report acknowledges that some may view this as a negotiation tactic, it underscores that if the official is correct, Israel is planning a military operation “the likes of which we haven’t seen in these past 22 months.”
