In a coordinated operation, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), alongside the Israel Security Agency (ISA), conducted a targeted strike overnight, destroying approximately 40 engineering vehicles used by Hamas for terrorist activities. According to the IDF, these vehicles played a significant role in the October 7, 2023, massacre and have been utilized in ongoing attacks against Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF stated that the engineering vehicles were “used for terror purposes, including during the October 7th massacre,” and were instrumental in Hamas’ operations. These vehicles facilitated a range of terrorist activities, such as “planting explosives, digging underground routes, breaching fences, and clearing rubble to locate weapons and military equipment hidden by the terrorist organization beneath the rubble.” The IDF emphasized that these vehicles are “a central component in Hamas’ ability to carry out terror operations against IDF troops and the State of Israel.”
During the October 7 attack, Hamas’ engineering unit employed these vehicles to breach the security barrier separating Israel and the Gaza Strip. The IDF reported that Hamas terrorists used the vehicles to create “dozens of breaches,” including “the construction of improvised bridges and the planting of explosives to break through the security barrier.” This enabled armed terrorists to infiltrate Israeli territory in trucks and on motorcycles, contributing to the deadly assault.

The IDF states that the overnight strike aimed to “disrupt another capability of the Hamas terrorist organization”. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the IDF and ISA to neutralize threats posed by terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip. The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to “continue to operate against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip in order to eliminate any threat to the citizens of the State of Israel.”
