The Shin Bet and Israeli Police arrested Sunday a Netivot resident on suspicion of conducting espionage activities for Iran.

According to the investigation, the suspect, 65, had been in contact with Iranian intelligence agents. His primary handler, who identified himself as an Azerbaijani citizen residing in Dubai, provided him with instructions for carrying out surveillance operations.

Under the agent’s guidance, the suspect took photographs of sensitive security locations, including IDF bases, the Haifa port, and the Nuclear Research Center. To facilitate his mission, he rented an apartment in Haifa with a direct view of the port, as instructed by his handler.

Despite suspecting early on that his contacts were affiliated with entities hostile to Israel, the suspect continued his activities, reportedly in exchange for money.
