In a special operation led by the Mossad and the IDF, the body of fallen Israeli tank commander, Staff Sergeant Tzvi Feldman hy”d, has been brought home from a site in Syria. Feldman was killed in the battle of Sultan Yacoub in June 1982, during the First Lebanon War.

For decades, Feldman was listed as missing in action. Continuous efforts to locate him and his fellow missing soldiers from that same battle never ceased.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu personally visited the Feldman family to share the joyful news of Zvi Feldman’s return.

Nearly six years ago, the remains of Staff Sergeant Zachary Baumel hy”d were recovered and brought back for burial in Israel. Today, Feldman has also been returned. The search for Staff Sergeant Yehuda Katz, who remains missing from that same battle, is ongoing.

Israeli Prime Minister Bnejamin Netanyahu said in a statement: “Over the years, I authorized numerous classified operations to locate the missing soldiers of Sultan Yacoub. I personally promised the Feldman family that we would never stop working to bring Tzvika home.”

Netanyahu added: “His beloved parents, Pnina and Avraham, fought tirelessly for his return, though sadly they passed away before this day arrived. Today, we return Tzvika to you—Itzik, Shlomo, and Anat—back to your hearts and to the soil of the Land of Israel that he so deeply loved.”

“I extend my deep gratitude to the Mossad, the IDF, the Shin Bet, and Gal Hirsch, Israel’s Coordinator for POWs and MIAs, for their decades of determined, courageous, and principled efforts to recover Tzvika and all of our missing and captive citizens—both the living and the fallen,” Netanyahu said
