A Jewish Israeli student traveling in Paris reported a harrowing encounter recently after discovering her taxi driver identified as a member of the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, according to a Saturday night report by Channel 12.
The incident occurred after the woman and a friend ordered a taxi through a ride-sharing app. The passenger noted that the driver spoke English, which facilitated a “pleasant” initial conversation. However, the discussion shifted when the driver stated he was from Lebanon.
The woman, who stated in an interview that she makes a point of not hiding her nationality, informed the driver she was from Israel. She described the driver’s face as “turning white” upon realizing his passengers were Israelis.
“It felt very uncomfortable. I told him I understood he didn’t like us,” she told Channel 12.
According to her account, the driver initially insisted he had “no problem with Israelis,” but expressed grievances regarding Israeli political leadership, specifically naming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
The situation escalated when the passenger asked for the driver’s opinion on Hezbollah, referring to it as a terrorist organization. The driver replied, “I’m from Hezbollah.”
It is possible that due to the language barrier, the driver may have intended to say that he was a supporter of the terror group and not an active member.
“At that moment I was scared, just like he was scared when I told him I was from Israel,” she said.
Despite the tension, the passenger described viewing the remaining seven minutes of the trip as a “mission” of outreach. She engaged the driver in a discussion regarding the October 7 attacks, sharing with him that three of her friends had been murdered at the Nova music festival.
“It was scary, but I wanted him to see our side too,” she said.
The ride concluded without physical incident. At the end of the trip, the driver offered his personal phone number to provide future rides. The women accepted the offer but provided him with a fake number before exiting the vehicle.
