As Jerusalem Day celebrations bring thousands to the Old City, Police Commissioner Danny Levy arrives at the Damascus Gate to monitor the Flag March, which winds through the Muslim Quarter.
Speaking to Kan, Levy confirms no arrests have been made thus far, although a few individuals have been detained. This marks a quieter event compared to last year, when 18 people were arrested during the march.
Levy remarks that, aside from “a handful of people who try to harm the joy and ceremoniousness” of the occasion, the event is proceeding smoothly. “99% are passing quietly,” he states.
Addressing reports of anti-Arab chants, Levy tells i24News he personally hasn’t heard any racist slogans. “Maybe I didn’t hear them because I’m an artilleryman,” he adds with a touch of humor
Banners were seen with slogans calling for the annexation of Gaza.
As the event nears its conclusion, the final groups of marchers make their way through Damascus Gate, heading toward the Kosel where the festivities are set to end.
