The Jewish third-grade girl who was seriously injured last week when a rock was thrown through her school bus window on the New Jersey Turnpike is showing encouraging signs of recovery, her family tells Belaaz.
The child was hurt on Wednesday when a rock struck the bus she was riding on while traveling northbound near Exit 70 A/B in Teaneck. Authorities said the bus was transporting students to Yeshivat Noam when the rock shattered a window and hit Gili in the head, causing a skull fracture.
In a statement shared exclusively with Belaaz, the family provided a positive update on her condition following several days of hospitalization.
“BH Gili had a good Shabbos; the swelling is going down, she’s still getting IV antibiotics. She’s talking and laughing, starting to eat and drink. Her pain is under control. The MRI is scheduled for tomorrow, and pending results, she should be discharged Monday. Thank you for your tefillot, it feels like a warm hug!”
The tzibur is asked to continue davening for Gila Bracha bas Michal Ilana.
New Jersey State Police announced on Friday that Hernando Garciamorales, 40, of Palisades Park, was arrested in connection with the incident. Investigators said he was located at a “self-made” campsite inside Old Croaker County Park in Bergen County after a multi-agency investigation. Authorities also linked him to several other rock-throwing incidents in Bogota Borough.
