Karen Diamond Hy”d, an 82-year-old woman critically injured in the antisemitic firebombing in Boulder, Colorado, earlier this month, tragically passed away last Wednesday, her family announced Monday.

The family held a small levaya on Friday.

Prosecutors have since upgraded charges against the suspect, Mohamed Soliman, to include two counts of first-degree murder.

Soliman planned the attack for a year, and prepared incendiary devices to throw at people walking on Pearl Street for the “Run for Their Lives” movement, which organizes quiet walks to spread awareness of the plight of the hostages abducted from Israel into Gaza during the Oct. 7 massacre. He told investigators that he had a desire “to kill all Zionist people.”

Soliman, who screamed antisemitic bile as he threw the Molotov cocktails into the crowd of a few dozen walkers, including many elderly people, had originally been charged with 118 criminal counts. With Karen’s murder now confirmed, prosecutors have upgraded the two attempted murder charges connected to her to first-degree murder, which each carry a mandatory life sentence without parole if convicted.

Prosecutors also filed 66 new charges, based on 14 more victims who were recently identified.

One of the injured included a Holocaust survivor.

According to the amended complaint, Soliman is now accused of targeting 29 victims in total, 13 of whom suffered physical injuries. The charges include two counts of first-degree murder, 52 counts of attempted first-degree murder, eight counts of first-degree assault, 18 counts of attempted first-degree assault, and two counts of third-degree assault. Soliman also faces two counts of using an incendiary device, 16 counts of attempted use of such a device, and one count of animal cruelty.

“This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends,” said Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty. “Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time.”
