Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said Sunday he has ordered the IDF to prevent a ship carrying Greta Thunberg and other pro-Hamas activists from reaching Gaza, calling the trip an attempt to breach Israel’s naval blockade.

The vessel, named Madleen, is operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a group opposed to Israel with ties to Muslim terror groups, and is sailing toward Gaza with 12 activists on board. Among them are Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Brazilian organizer Thiago Avila, and French-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan, who is barred from entering Israel.

“I have instructed the IDF to act so that the Madleen does not reach Gaza. To the antisemitic Greta and her friends, I say clearly: You should turn back, because you will not reach Gaza,” Katz declared.

He said the blockade remains a critical defense measure. “The State of Israel will not allow anyone to violate the naval blockade on Gaza, the primary purpose of which is to prevent the transfer of weapons to Hamas, a murderous terror organization that holds our hostages and commits war crimes,” he added.

The Madleen departed from Catania, Sicily, last Sunday. The activists say their aim is to bring humanitarian aid and raise awareness of Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, which continues nearly 20 months into Israel’s war with Hamas.

In a previous attempt last month, the Freedom Flotilla sent another ship toward Gaza, but that effort ended after the vessel, reportedly tied to Hamas, was struck by two drones in international waters near Malta. The attack damaged the front of the ship. The group blamed Israel, though the government did not comment.
