In a Thursdag interview with Channel 13, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz disclosed that Israel had been prepared to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, though circumstances never allowed the plan to move forward.

“If he had been in our sights, we would have taken him out,” Katz stated, continuing, “We wanted to eliminate Khamenei, but there was no operational opportunity.”

Katz demurred when asked if Khameni was still a”marked man”

“Again, there’s a difference between before a ceasefire and after a ceasefire. During the operation, we would have taken him down,” Katz said.

When asked whether Israel had consulted the United States before considering such a strike, Katz dismissed the notion, saying: “We don’t need permission for these things.”
