The Israeli Knesset today officially approved a new bill that makes denying the October 7th massacre a criminal offense, punishable by five years in prison.
The bill states, “As we have learned from the phenomenon of Holocaust denial, such lies can spread rapidly and thwart the possibility of establishing historical truth. Furthermore, denial of the massacre is sometimes part of an attempt to protect the perpetrators of the crimes and express support for them.”
The bill’s sponsor stated in the Knesset plenum that “in order to combat the denial of the massacre and prevent its spread both in Israel and abroad, it is proposed to establish a new offense based on the prohibition against Holocaust denial.”
