Antisemite Candace Owens is facing a defamation lawsuit from French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, over what they describe as a campaign of falsehoods and personal attacks, centered on a podcast series and related posts that allegedly spread defamatory claims about the French First Lady.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States, accuses Owens of promoting “unfounded theories” and “misinformation” with the intent to “inflame and attract attention through sensationalism and conspiracy theories.” Specifically, it names an eight-part series titled “Becoming Brigitte” and related posts on X, formerly Twitter.

“These lies have caused tremendous damage to the Macrons,” the suit states. Owens and her affiliated companies, it continues, “subjected the Macrons to a campaign of global humiliation, turning their lives into fodder for profit-driven lies.” The content dissected their marriage, appearance, friends, and family, the lawsuit says, “twisting it all into a grotesque narrative designed to inflame and degrade.”

The Macrons claim that Owens’ conduct meets the legal standard of actual malice, as she allegedly acted with “reckless disregard for the truth.” They argue she was financially motivated to spread the defamatory content, using the podcast to solicit contributions and grow her personal brand.

The series came after the Macrons had already sent Owens a retraction demand in December 2024. Despite that, she proceeded to publish additional content repeating the claims. A final retraction demand was issued earlier this month.

Owens has previously drawn widespread criticism for antisemitic remarks. She has accused Jews of dual loyalty, suggested Jewish influence controls the media, and echoed conspiracy theories about “Zionist agendas” and globalist elites, rhetoric widely recognized as coded antisemitism. These comments, made over the past several years, have been condemned by Jewish organizations and former colleagues, including Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro.

Tom Clare, the Macrons’ attorney, called Owens’ actions a “clear-cut case of defamation,” pointing to the reputational and emotional harm caused to the French president and first lady.
