Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela has revealed his country’s intention to formally recognize a Palestinian state, according to reports from local news outlets.
During a political gathering held in Mosta today, Abela stated that this recognition is expected to happen in conjunction with the upcoming French-Saudi summit scheduled for next month. The conference, set to take place at the United Nations headquarters in New York, aims to promote a two-state resolution, as reported by the English-language Times of Malta.
Although Malta already hosts a Palestinian ambassador and supported full Palestinian membership in the United Nations during a Security Council vote in April last year, it has not yet officially acknowledged Palestinian statehood.
