Mrs. Beatrice Fox a”h, Found Unresponsive, Holding Tehillim at the Kosel

A tragic scene unfolded Wednesday at the Kosel when an elderly woman was discovered without signs of life while seated in the Ezras Nashim.

The woman was identified as Mrs. Beatrice Fox, a”h. She was 78 years old.

Thanks to the intervention of various organizations, arrangements were made for her body to be released for burial.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the woman had been unresponsive for a number of hours. Unfortunately, by the time she was noticed, it was too late—emergency personnel had no choice but to declare her deceased at the site.

In a statement, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation expressed its condolences: “We express deep sorrow over a tragic incident that occurred in the last hour at the Western Wall plaza, with the passing of a homeless woman who had been staying in the Old City basin and Western Wall area from time to time. The handling of the incident, including honoring the deceased, is being carried out by the competent authorities. The Foundation shares in the family’s grief at this difficult time – and may you rest in peace from Yerushalayim.”

A bystander who witnessed the scene told Israeli media outlets that she found the lady sitting with a book of Tehillim open. Mrs. Fox is very well known at the Kosel, the bystander said, and she occasionally donated money to its tzedaks fund.
