Nassau County Ramps Up Security In Response To Mamdani’s Election

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced that the county will deploy cameras and other surveillance tools along the New York City border following the election of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

Blakeman, freshly re-elected in the predominantly Democratic county, told Fox News on Monday that the new measures are intended to reinforce public safety under a mayor-elect he views as a security risk. “We are doing everything necessary to make sure that Nassau County is safe,” he said, noting that the county will install license-plate readers, facial-recognition tools and video systems.

He said Nassau is also adding new officers to its force, supplementing the police already on duty and the 100 cadets in training.

“Our cops are doing a great job,” Blakeman said, adding that he will keep supplying police with the staffing, equipment and training they need.

Blakeman argued that Mamdani “talks like he’s pro-criminal, not pro-victim,” and said voters responded strongly to his own message on safety and affordability. He won by nearly 12 points in a county with more than 100,000 more Democrats than Republicans.

He said his stance on immigration enforcement and his opposition to New York’s sanctuary policies were part of that appeal, and he emphasized that he never distanced himself from his support for President Trump. “People respected me for that, even if they disagree,” he said.

Blakeman said his coalition of independents and crossover Democrats powered his victory, contrasting his agenda with Mamdani’s past attacks on police and his push to replace officers with mental-health workers.

“Right now, I see his values as anti-American,” Blakeman said. He warned that Mamdani’s policies could damage New York City’s economic standing and added that anyone leaving the city is “welcome to come to Nassau County, where it’s safe and affordable.”
