The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Friday that the first phase of Operation SafeDRIVE removed nearly 2,000 unqualified commercial truck drivers and vehicles from roads across 26 states and Washington D.C.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration led inspections, a total of 8,215, placed 704 drivers out of service, including 500 for failing English proficiency rules and sidelined 1,231 unsafe vehicles. 56 arrests were carried out for DUI or immigration violations.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy hailed it as a safety win under the Trump administration’s push for qualified drivers.
