Two days after the attempted attack on a flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday that the investigation is pointing to a deliberate attempt to bring down the aircraft.
“As time passes, the picture is becoming clearer,” Netanyahu said. “Yaniv and his heroic friends prevented a 9/11-type disaster. The attacker underwent Islamist radicalization. He came to crash the plane with its passengers on board.”
The Prime Minister added a warning: “We are now determining in the investigation whether he was sent, and whoever sent him will pay a very heavy price.”
Flight FZ 1073, a Boeing 737 MAX, was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv when, according to Netanyahu, one pilot stabbed the other as the plane neared Israel. Passenger Yaniv Hayun broke into the cockpit with a crew member and subdued the attacker, and the plane landed in Saudi Arabia. 174 passengers, most of them Israeli, were on board
