As Israel to Washington Michael Herzog’s term comes to an end and in anticipation of the U.S. administration transition, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has announced that Dr. Yechiel Leiter will be appointed as Israel’s next ambassador to the United States. Dr. Leiter is expected to assume his position on January 20, coinciding with the new Trump administration’s inauguration.
Dr. Leiter has held senior roles in Israel’s public service and, having been born in the United States, possesses a strong understanding of both American society and government. His son, Major Moshe Yedidah, tragically fell in combat in Gaza on November 10, 2023.
Prime Minister Netanyahu praised the incoming ambassador, saying, “Yechiel Leiter is a highly skilled diplomat, an eloquent speaker, and has a deep understanding of American culture and politics. I am confident that Yechiel will represent the State of Israel in the best possible way, and I wish him success in his role.”
