Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has begun interviewing candidates to replace Shin Bet head Ronen Bar, as reported by multiple Israeli news sources.
Four candidates are currently under consideration, all of whom have been summoned to Netanyahu’s office. The shortlist includes three former deputy Shin Bet heads, two identified only by their initials, “Mem” and “Resh.” The third candidate is Shalom Ben Hanan, while the fourth, Eyal Tsir Cohen, is a former Mossad division head.
All four will meet with Netanyahu once he returns from his overseas trip.
On Tuesday, Israel’s High Court extended a temporary freeze on Bar’s dismissal but lifted a restriction preventing Netanyahu from interviewing potential replacements.
