Following a 3-hour security meeting that just concluded at the Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office in Jerusalem, an Israeli official says the government is leaning toward a full occupation of the Gaza Strip.
IDF Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, expressed opposition to this strategy but stated he would implement it if the political leadership decides to proceed with the plan.
Prime Minister Netanyahu plans to present the occupation proposal for cabinet approval during a meeting scheduled for this coming Thursday. The IDF is prepared to execute any decision made, including operations in areas previously avoided to minimize risks to hostages.
The Prime Minister’s office released a statement after the meeting, saying, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a focused security discussion today, lasting approximately three hours, during which the Chief of Staff presented options for continuing the campaign in Gaza. The IDF is prepared to implement any decision made by the political-security cabinet.”
