Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said in a Fox News interview that Israel plans to seize full military control of Gaza, but does not intend to annex it or remain as its long-term governor.

“We intend to,” Netanyahu stated when asked whether Israel will take over the entire 26-mile Gaza Strip. “We don’t want to keep it. We want to have a security perimeter. We don’t want to govern it. We don’t want to be there as a governing body.”

He added, “We want to hand it over to Arab forces that will govern it properly, without threatening us, and [to give] Gazans a good life.”

Meanwhile, although Channel 12 previously reported that U.S. President Donald Trump does not oppose Netanyahu’s apparent plan to conduct a sweeping military campaign in Gaza, the network now says a senior American official clarified that the Trump administration does not endorse any Israeli annexation of the territory.

A senior Israeli official confirmed to Channel 12 that Washington recently pushed back against the annexation concept in direct talks with Israeli counterparts.

This development comes as Israel’s security cabinet is scheduled to meet later tonight for a critical discussion on whether to proceed with a full-scale military occupation of the Gaza Strip.
