At a Jerusalem Day state ceremony held at Ammunition Hill in the capital, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu renewed his pledge to bring back Israeli hostages from Gaza this week after his office walked back an earlier statement to that effect.
The Prime Minister drew criticism from hostage families for previously suggesting a resolution might come “today or tomorrow”—a statement he later tried to temper. Speaking again on Monday evening, he repeated a version of the first timeline.
“The task in Gaza, including the task of returning our hostages, keeps us busy every day and every night,” Netanyahu stated. “We aren’t letting go of this, and if we don’t fulfill it today, we will do it tomorrow. And if not tomorrow — then the day after tomorrow.”
Netanyahu also asserted that Hamas continues to resist ceasefire offers, describing the group as “stubborn” and uncooperative. He cited U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff as supporting this assessment.
