Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, of Maharashtra, India, was killed after a chartered aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed on Tuesday. Authorities said there were no survivors.

The aircraft was carrying five people – three passengers, a pilot, and a crew member – when it went down. Officials said the identities of others on board are still being verified. Pawar was traveling to Baramati as part of a tour and was scheduled to address four election rallies.

According to WION Correspondent Disha Shah, the crash was described as extremely serious, with large sections of the aircraft engulfed in flames following impact. The chartered plane was en route from Mumbai to Baramati and crash-landed at approximately 8:45 am. Police and local party workers have since reached the crash site.

Authorities said more details regarding the cause of the crash and confirmation of those on board will be released as the investigation progresses.
