One person has died and several others were injured following a shooting on Kentucky State University’s campus Tuesday.

The Frankfort Police Department said it responded to reports of an active shooter on campus around 3:35 p.m.

Police confirmed that one person was killed and another is hospitalized in critical condition.

A university official told WKYT that the incident occurred in the area of south campus.

Authorities report that a suspect is in custody. Kentucky State University remains on lockdown until further notice.

The university also confirmed that multiple people sustained injuries, though their conditions have not been disclosed.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear commented on the incident, saying: “We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”
