A pro-Palestinian group in Sweden triggered widespread condemnation after unveiling a protest installation depicting mannequins hanging from gallows, dressed in uniforms resembling those worn by victims of Nazi concentration camps.
The display appeared during a demonstration in the northern city of Umeå and was labeled by organizers as an “artistic installation.”
The mannequins were clothed in striped prisoner outfits marked with numbers and yellow patches, mimicking the attire forced upon Jews during the Holocaust.
Next to the gallows, Palestinian flags were positioned, and in front of the display sat a figure in a keffiyeh cradling a baby doll. A sign overhead read in Swedish: “Genocide is genocide is genocide.”
Photos from the protest were originally shared online by a group called “Umeå for Palestine,” which referred to the demonstration as a form of artistic expression. Although the group has since removed the posts, screenshots continue to circulate online.
The protest sparked backlash on Swedish social media, with many questioning whether the display was meant to equate the Holocaust with events in Gaza—or worse, imply a call for the execution of Jews.
