A massive crowd filled State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday for the funeral of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as political leaders, family, and admirers remembered the Turning Point USA founder’s life and work.
More than 78,000 mourners filled the stadium, while over 100,000 watched from a nearby overflow venue or stood outside in the desert heat. Many arrived before dawn, some parking miles away to pay their respects to the 31-year-old, who was shot and killed on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback Tour.”

President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other dignitaries joined Kirk’s widow, Erika, in delivering emotional tributes. During his remarks, Trump praised Kirk as “one of the brightest lights of our time,” calling him “a martyr now” and “one of America’s greatest patriots.” The president also announced that he will posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, saying, “He will live forever in the chronicle of America’s greatest patriots.”
Trump blasted the “major losers” who publicly cheered Charlie Kirk’s death.“You know the names,” he said, referring to celebrities and politicians. “They’re major losers by the way.”He added, “The same commentators who this week are screaming ‘fascism’ over the cancellation of a late-night host who had no talent and no ratings last week were implying that Charlie Kirk deserved what happened to him,” drawing loud applause from the audience.
The service drew headlines for another reason: it marked the first public meeting between Trump and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk since their bitter falling-out earlier this year. Footage showed the two seated next to one another, exchanging a brief handshake as attendees applauded. Musk, 54, had arrived alone before Trump took his seat nearby. It remains unclear what they said during the encounter, which came months after Musk resigned as head of the Department of Government Efficiency and clashed with Trump over spending plans.
From the stage, Erika Kirk offered a deeply personal remembrance of her husband, weaving faith, humor, and resilience through her eulogy. She began by quoting his favorite verse, Yeshaya 6:8: “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
Describing the moment she viewed her husband’s body, Erika spoke through tears but also with calm conviction. “I looked directly at my husband’s murdered body,” she said. “I saw the wound that ended his life … but there was something else too. Even in death, I could see the man that I love.” She noted “the faintest smile” on his lips, saying it showed “Charlie didn’t suffer.”

The widow also shared tender anecdotes about their marriage. Every Saturday, she said, Charlie left her a note describing his week, his gratitude for their family, and always asking, “Please let me know how I can better serve you as a husband.” She vowed to continue his mission as Turning Point USA’s new CEO: “Everything that Turning Point USA built through Charlie’s vision and hard work, we will make ten times greater through the power of his memory. No assassin will ever stop us from standing up to defend those rights.”
As the ceremony closed, applause rippled through the packed stadium, underscoring how Kirk’s work had inspired a generation. Trump summed up the sentiment of many in attendance: “None of us will ever forget Charlie Kirk. And neither now will history.”
