Political Upheaval In Iran: President’s Allies Call For Dismantling Nuclear Program

A major political storm is brewing in Iran after the “Reform Front,” the faction aligned with President Massoud Pezeshkian, released a declaration demanding sweeping changes to the country’s system of governance.

According to Israel Hayom the faction’s demands include dismantling Iran’s uranium enrichment program in return for sanctions relief, freeing political prisoners, abolishing the mandatory hijab for women, and recognizing a Palestinian state under the Saudi peace framework, a step that could eventually lead to normalization with Israel.

The most explosive clause in the statement calls for removing the Revolutionary Guards from positions of political influence and limiting their role in both foreign and domestic affairs. The faction warned, “the war has shown that continuing on this path, without restoring internal trust and without dialogue with the world, will result in a heavy human, psychological and material cost for the nation.”

Initially distributed only within the faction before being released to the public, the statement describes deepening despair among ordinary Iranians, coupled with a collapsing economy that could endanger the country’s future. The sharp criticism of the Revolutionary Guards triggered fierce pushback from circles close to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with the Tasnim news agency lashing out at the faction and likening them to opposition groups that once plotted against the regime.

At this point, it remains uncertain how directly Pezeshkian supports the declaration. However, Iranian analysts believe that the gradual weakening of Khamenei’s authority, together with maneuvering for the post-Khamenei era, has emboldened reformists to reassert themselves in response to mounting public discontent.
