Jihadi communist Zohran Mamdani is ahead of his opponents by a 17-point margin among Jewish voters in the latest New York City mayoral poll, according to new data released Thursday.
The survey, conducted by Zenith Research in partnership with Public Progress Solutions, found Mamdani would secure 50% of the overall vote, far outpacing his four challengers combined. The Democratic nominee reshaped the city’s political scene last month by defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the primary.
According to the poll, 43% of Jewish voters said they planned to vote for Mamdani, a socialist who quotes Karl Marx and says he wants to “seize the means of production,” including 67% of those between the ages of 18 and 44. Cuomo garnered 26% support from Jewish voters, while current Mayor Eric Adams polled at just 15%.
However, observant Jews and Jewish people over 45 were far more likely to back Cuomo or Adams.
This is the first survey to focus specifically on the Jewish electorate ahead of November’s general election. A previous poll ahead of the Democratic primary had shown Mamdani as the second choice among Jewish voters, behind Cuomo.
Mamdani’s admiration for Hamas’ supporters have many Jewish New Yorkers alarmed. He has repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, endorsed the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, and declared he would have Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu arrested if he visited New York.
Despite these positions, the latest polling suggests younger and less observant Jewish voters are largely unfazed by Mamdani’s rhetoric. A separate survey this week showed that his support for Palestinians energized much of his primary base, with 83% of new, young voters saying it played a key role in their decision.
The Zenith/Public Progress poll, conducted from July 16 to 24, included responses from 1,453 New Yorkers. It reported a margin of error of 2.9% among all registered voters, with a slightly wider margin for Jewish respondents due to the smaller sample. Notably, Public Progress Solutions is led by Amit Singh Bagga, a close Mamdani supporter.
