A senior Qatari delegation flew into Washington from Doha on Monday to finalize the agreement for the release of the hostages. The team is expected at the White House, likely coinciding with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s visit there.
According to a source speaking with Reuters, the United Arab Emirates is urging Netanyahu to accept US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan during their meeting Monday and to drop any intention of annexing Yehudah and Shomron.
Hamas terrorists say they are not involved in the discussions.
The UAE, the leading Arab nation to normalize relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords, warned Netanyahu that pursuing annexation would shut off the path to broader normalization with key Arab and Muslim states, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, the source said.
An Israeli official confirmed to the Times of Israel that Netanyahu will present Israel’s official response to Trump’s Gaza peace initiative during his meeting with the American president today. Trump personally welcomed Netanyahu with a handshake at the entrance to the White House.
The UAE’s position was conveyed directly by Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed during his meeting with Netanyahu on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York last Friday, the delegate noted.
Until now, the specific contents of Sheikh Abdullah’s remarks to Netanyahu had not been publicly disclosed.
