Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) has formally nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing Trump’s alleged “extraordinary and historic role” in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The nomination comes in the wake of a recent halt to hostilities between the two nations, which Carter credits to Trump’s direct intervention.

In a letter addressed to Jørgen Watne Frydnes, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Representative Carter asserted that Trump, referred to as the “47th President of the United States,” took “bold action to ultimately champion peace through strength and facilitate a ceasefire framework that brought hostilities to a halt.”

According to Carter’s letter, the world was “on the precipice of a dangerous and potentially region-destabilizing war” just weeks ago. He commended Trump for announcing the terms of a “complete and total ceasefire agreement,” and for his “message of mutual respect and peace,” which Carter claims will lead to a full cessation of military activity and prevent further escalation, saving countless lives.
Carter further highlighted Trump’s role in “halt[ing] Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensur[ing] that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.” He argued that Trump’s leadership “exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”

The nomination letter concludes by stating that Trump “demonstrated both courage and clarity, offering the world a rare glimpse of hope” in a region long “plagued by historical animosity and political volatility.”
