Iran is constructing a vast security barrier around two deeply buried tunnel networks linked to its main nuclear complex, according to a Wednesday report, as the U.S. and Israel continue to warn of possible military action should a new deal not be reached to curb the Islamic terror-sponsoring regime’s nuclear activities.
The Institute for Science and International Security published the report based on fresh satellite imagery, just as Iran and the U.S. prepare for a third round of negotiations this weekend aimed at reviving limits on Tehran’s nuclear activities.
David Albright, president of the institute, says the fortified perimeter suggests the tunnel facilities, under development beneath Mt. Kolang Gaz La for several years, could soon become operational.
Tehran has not permitted UN nuclear inspectors to access the tunnel sites, Albright says.
That lack of access has fueled suspicions the tunnels may be intended to store Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, undeclared nuclear materials, or advanced centrifuges capable of rapidly producing bomb-grade uranium, he says.
