Iran conveyed a warning to U.S. President Donald Trump several days before the American strike on its nuclear sites, NBC reports. According to the report, Tehran threatened to activate sleeper-cells to carry out attacks inside the United States if the Islamic Republic was targeted.

The warning reportedly reached Trump during the G7 summit in Canada last week. Trump left the summit early due to the escalating situation with Iran, just days before American warplanes struck multiple Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday.

NBC says neither the White House nor Iran’s Mission to the United Nations responded to requests for comment. The report cites two U.S. officials and another individual familiar with the warning.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance addressed the threat during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” saying the administration is monitoring the possibility of an attack on American soil “very closely.”

A European diplomat told NBC that U.S. and European intelligence believe Iran retains the capability to target American and European citizens “beyond U.S. soil and beyond the Middle East.”
