Some ministers in the government are increasingly convinced that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu might soon choose to dissolve his coalition and call early elections, the Times of Israel reported Friday. This move would be preemptive, they say, to avoid a government shutdown by being ousted by the Charedi parties over drafting Yeshiva students.
A senior minister told the Times of Israel that “Netanyahu knows there is no solution to the Charedi enlistment matter. He is bidding for time and will eventually say that ‘on this important matter, I didn’t cave.’ The source added that Netanyahu’s plan is to win the election with the support of veterans, reservists and those opposed to Charedi exemptions.
Netanyahu has consistently delayed confronting the issue head-on, managing political flare-ups and coalition threats even amid wartime pressures.
