Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu reportedly shared classified details about an upcoming military strike on Iran with Rabbi Moshe Gafni, the leader of the Degel Hatorah faction of the United Torah Judaism party, according to a Friday report in the New York Times.

The briefing reportedly occurred days before the operation, at a time when Gafni and other Charedi lawmakers were threatening to withdraw from the coalition over the draft law.

The meeting took place on June 9 at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, the Times wrote.

According to the report, the purpose of the briefing was to underscore the serious security situation and persuade Gafni to keep his faction in the government. A confidant of the UTJ leader was quoted as saying, “The plan to strike Iran was the only thing that kept the Charedim from dissolving the government.”
