WASHINGTON – NBC reported Friday that President Trump has privately expressed “serious interest” in deploying a small contingent of U.S. ground troops inside Iran for specific strategic missions, though officials said he has not made any decision or issued orders.

Sources said Trump discussed a postwar vision in which Iran’s uranium stockpile is secured and the U.S. works with a new Iranian government on oil production, similar to Washington’s current cooperation with Venezuela after the January capture of Nicolás Maduro.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back on the report, saying the story relies on anonymous sources “not part of the President’s national security team,” while emphasizing that Trump “always keeps all options open.”
